My Photo Journey: Visiting the Beginnings of the Slave Trade|Dakar, SENEGAL

My trip to Senegal was a life impacting experience.  I got the opportunity to experience the history of so many of our ancestors from the starting point… the shores of Africa.  To learn about the beginnings of the African Slave Trade is an eye opener but to see with your eyes one of the places where the 400 years of African slavery commenced is a powerful, perspective shifting experience of which I had the privilege of having. From laying my eyes on the African Renaissance Monument to visiting Goree Island and taking a tour by foot and visiting it’s infamous “House of Slaves” indeed brought the history of so many of our ancestors to life; seeing where their identity ended and the horrid history of many of their generations their after began. In honor of American “Black” History month, this time around I have compiled many of my pictures in what I call a “photo journey” video of my experience in Dakar, Senegal that, I hope, will fill you in a little bit more on the beginnings of what is considered “Black” History.  Here is a link with more detailed history on Goree Island and Senegal. ENJOY!
