I posted an blog post about 3 days ago by Jessica Ann Mitchell over at “Our Legaci” blog (http://ourlegaci.com/2013/12/13/please-excuse-davontaye-he-suffers-from-povertenza/) where she discussed the “Affluenza” case and how the verdict would have been much more different if that child was black and/or poor. Well she was speaking the TRUTH! Here you go! Proof that this judge has given a lesser crime a harsher punishment and the assailant just happened to be… you guessed it… an African American boy.
Please understand, people of color are not trying to be seen as having “a chip on their shoulder” but when many of us speak about systematic racism, and in this case, elitism, we don’t speak out of ignorance. So many of us wear the skin and economic status that receives so much discrimination and prejudice so we speak from what we see, the pain we have felt, the discriminations we have experienced personally and their aftermaths.
If we’re going to use the term “Affluenza” as a form of defense, then let’s definitely coin the term “Povertenza” as a defense also.
